Climate Data Rescue

The Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) organized a sub-regional training workshop on Climate Data Rescue and Digitization jointly with the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).  The workshop was hosted by the Jordanian Meteorological Department (JMD) in Amman, Jordan during the period from 11 to 13 June 2013.  The purpose of the training was to build the capacity of JMD staff and experts from Palestine, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Yemen on theoretical and practical aspects of data rescue and digitization of climate records.  Various subjects such as methods of transferring source medium, methods of converting to digital records, required metadata, storage and backup practices, quality of control of data, and homogenization were addressed during the workshop in addition to a demonstration of a number of Climate Data Management Systems and other related issues.
